Dog Nutrition & Positive Dog Training
Positive Dog Training
Dogs naturally want to please humans and treating the dog as a sentient being that can decide to an extent to behave well is what humane dog training is about.
Humane, positive, operant conditioning dog training does not use physical force of any kind.
Positive training is operant conditioning which means that desired behavior is rewarded and undesired behavior is ignored.
The dog soon learns that when he does the desired behavior he gets a reward.
This reward is either in the form of praise and petting or food.
The more complex the desired behavior is the more desirable the reward needs to be. (This is called upping the ante)
An example of this is if teaching the dog to roll over, play dead or other tricks then the trainer needs to use pieces of chicken or beef rather than kibble or biscuits.
I can help you with:
- food bowl possessiveness
- toy possessiveness
- leash and walking issues
- excessive barking
- recall issues
Training Consultations
Consultations during which time a detailed questionnaire will be completed to determine your dog's special needs.
This questionnaire will include any health issues that may be affecting the dog's behavior.
I use food as a reward and do not use any physical punishment or force.
I believe in being firm but fair with the dog.
Individual training sessions will be with the owner and dog.
It is important that your dog follow your commands and comply with your wishes.
Training sessions will include giving the owner the tools to control the dog's behavior and achieve the goals set forth during the consultation.
This is not a class but individual sessions to help you and your dog achieve a more harmonious relationship with each other.
The initial assessment costs $75 and the one-hour private training sessions are $40 each.
